Hi!
I am going to be in SF last weekend of September, and I am wondering if anyone knows of a good milonga that is on? I have checked out the Bay Area Tango website, but of course while this lists Milongas, it doesn't really tell me if they are any good or not. What is your favorite Milonga in the area, what would you recommend? I have been told the tango scene in the Bay Area is better than LA, and I would be particularly bouncy if I can find somewhere where they play more modern stuff and not just traditional tango music. Any suggestions?

Re: Bay Area Tango
Sun, August 12, 2007 - 9:07 PMI have checked tangomango.org for the last week of Sep.
For modern stuff definitely try the Cell Space milonga (Wed), Thu at the Verdi Club (traditional), Fri. Diamond Heights, Sat. aMuse. Sun. Studio Gracia (also afternoon open air Golden Gate milonga - no great dancing on asphalt... but a cool place and you are "on stage" so to speak).
If other milongas are more convenient (Palo Alto, for instance) they would be good too. There is a very active scene up here and it's hard to go wrong.
Those are the milongas I'll go to if I can. Maybe I'll see you?

Mon, August 13, 2007 - 1:52 PMThanks for all the info!
OK, so I am likely to be looking for a Milonga on the Sat night. So, the question is, what is better, aMuse or the one in Palo Alto? Either are equally convenient for me. I live in LA, the drive from SF --> Palo Alto is nothing ;)
And if you are out on the Sat night, it would be fun to see you, yes :)

Re: Bay Area Tango
Tue, August 14, 2007 - 12:32 AMThere is no milonga listed in Palo Alto for Saturday 9/29 ... so the choice is easy. I do plan to be at aMuse, so I'll look around for you.
BTW, do you know of milongas (weeknights) around Redondo Beach? I go there occasionally for work.

Re: Bay Area Tango
Tue, August 14, 2007 - 6:12 PMI don't know of Milongas around Redondo beach itself, but I do know where the good milongas are (depends on day of the week) - mainly in west la or pasadena, or el encuentro in sherman oaks. The drive should be less than an hour at that time of night. So if you let me know when you are next down here, I can give you tips for good places to dance that particular week/day? -
