I am taking a beginner's class with Sonja Rijket. It IS SOOOO GREAT!
I can't even explain. Here is the link: www.intimateembracetango.com/
She's also a Feldenkris healer so she's presenting Tango a a form of healing.

Re: somatic tango
Tue, May 15, 2007 - 7:50 PMthis looks so interesting! i do healing work too, but separate from tango. i'd be curious to hear more about it until i can get to s.f. and check it out myself.
anyone other experiences with somatic work/tango combos, etc? -

Re: somatic tango
Wed, May 16, 2007 - 9:49 AMcan't really explain it with words. But in the class we don't work on the "footwork" very much at all. We work on balance and the connection the "feeling" of tango. using our entire bodies to dance tango...also everyone in the class is learning to lead AND follow...

Re: somatic tango
Thu, May 17, 2007 - 6:22 PMThat is the only way tango should be taught. Inever understood spending 3/4 of a class drilling the steps of the combination into the followers anyway. How are we supposed to learn to follow if we are learning the steps?
That's why I loved Nora's classes.Leaders learned the steps, followers learned to follow.
I see many, many parallels between tango & aikido, and aikido is Extremely Healing! -

Re: somatic tango
Thu, May 17, 2007 - 11:52 PMSo true. What happens when followers learn the steps is that leaders "think" they learned how to lead them... but they didn't, and as soon as they try them outside the class, it all falls apart...
